There are several ways our class members can support the University, including:
- Our Class of 1971 Endowed Scholarship Fund
- Charitable Gift Annuities – a way to target your gift toward a cause that is meaningful to you. CGA gifts provide “lifetime” income with “considerable” non-tax income. A special onetime $53K CGA gift using a QDC transfers $$ from pre-tax IRA to post- tax Income; current CGA annuity interest rate is 6.2%. There are various Endowment Funds that can be targeted:
- The International Student Assistance Fund; the Iaccoca fund will match donations to this Fund.
- Starting a Fund for a new home for the Marching 97; the officers feel that informing our classmates about the lack of a home for the Marching 97 will generate interest in this cause
- Support Lehigh’s Future Makers Campaign; Marty discussed his gift to provide voice-text transcribers for hearing impaired students.
- Access Success Program – supports the non-academic expenses encountered by students; examples are
- providing stipends when a student takes on an internship to enhance their professional development,
- forgoing a paying job,
- and travel expenses to attend conferences to present their research
- College of Health Endowments – a recent $10,000 grant enabled a member of this newest college at Lehigh to initiate a project to develop a method to provide for enhance GPS tracking in buildings enabling impaired individuals to navigate the building. This initial funding led to a $2.3 Million Federal Grant to fully develop the idea.
- Establish of a Class of 1971 Scholarship. It can be modeled after the McConn House Scholarship. We would need $50K to get it started, with $250K to establish a scholarship.
